About Castlewood Players…

Since its formation, Castlewood Players has developed into a permanent and valuable community activity and have given much entertainment to audiences at local and county venues and throughout the country. It staged ‘Big Maggie’ in Washington State, USA through invitation in 1999. It has won many awards for production, acting, sets, lighting and sound effects in One Act and Three Act Drama festivals (competitions) countrywide and is regarded as one of the foremost drama groups in the country.

The group was formed by the members of an Adult Education Drama Class (Clare VEC). This class was organised by Rose Collins in the spring of 1981. The name for the group was prompted by the fact that there are three castles and a famous wood in the parish.
The first production was a three-act play staged in the Community Hall called ‘A Letter from the General’ by Maurice McLaughlin and the producer was Eileen Neville RIP.
