Fundraising for Cancer Research

Strictly Come Dancing East Clare was a phenomenal success bringing together the communities of East Clare to jointly fundraise for cancer research. Funds raised in the region of €70,000 will go directly to cancer research through the following two organizations:

  • 50%: Children’s Cancer Research Appeal, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin
  • 50%: Mid Western Cancer Foundation

A tremendous night was had by all who attended the Grand Finale at the West County Hotel, Ennis on August 31st to support their local dance couple. Thirteen dance couples put on top class performances and surprised everyone on the night. Feedback from those who attended the event was highly complementary with many people saying it was their best night entertainment ever.

The success of Strictly Come Dancing East Clare has not alone raised an incredible amount of money in eight weeks for cancer research but it brought the communities of East Clare together to achieve a common goal. This fundraising project was never about what any one dance couple or any one community could raise for the charity, it was about a joint initiative with the aim of jointly raising money for cancer research.  This has been achieved and the expectations of the organising committee were surpassed in terms of the funds raised and the success in brining the communities of East Clare together.

The East Clare communities have surpassed the expectations of the organising committee both in terms of money raised and the wonderful community spirit which was evident throughout East Clare during the lead into the Grand Finale.

The Kilmurry dance couple Claire Bannon and Christy Carey put in an incredible performance on the night and in the hearts of many were the true winners of Strictly Come Dancing East Clare.  Well done to you both for such an entertaining evening.
